Grade 1ES celebrated St. Lucia Day a day early by making cinnamon buns and wearing candle crowns, freeing our hands to “share our light” just like St. Lucia did when she brought food and hope to early Christians hiding in the catacombs.

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Lucy!

Even in her darkest moment, she walked toward the light. Her name means "light-bearer," and 1700 years later, her courage still inspires us.

When life feels overwhelming, remember: just move toward the light. Let go of worry and fear. Focus on prayer, authentic love, and friends who lift you up.

Which direction are you moving today?

Earlier this month students in Mrs. Mac’s Kindergarten class have been learning about their community through community walks and last week they explored Ship Wreck Park. During these outdoor learning opportunities, students have discussed how they need to be stewards of our environment, they have been practicing making observations, noticing seasonal changes, and just taking the time to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Priority 2: Our Kindergarten and one of our Grade 1 classes learned about Ribbon Skirts and Ribbon Shirts from Ms. Stephanie from the Education Department at Cold Lake First Nations, and then got to create their very own Paper Ribbon Skirts and Ribbon Shirts. In the coming weeks, Ms. Stephanie will be back to work with our remaining Grade 1 classes.

We are very grateful for this partnership with Cold Lake First Nations and all the learning and growing that is happening within Holy Cross as a result of it.
